A visual storyteller, John’s directing style has taken on great influence from his close work with directors Steven Soderbergh, Cary Fukunaga, Jon Watts, and Sean Baker.

John J. Budion is a writer/director with over 20 years of experience in the film and TV world. He got his start as a visual effects artist at the age of 17 while working towards his degree at NYU. His VFX credits include ’The Grand Budapest Hotel’, ‘Beasts of No Nation’, ‘Midsommar’, ‘Marriage Story’, and many more.

John made his feature film directorial debut with the acclaimed movie about his childhood, titled ‘Rockaway’, which made its worldwide streaming and theatrical premiere in 2019. Called “An agonized and sharply moving film” by The New Yorker, the film is now streaming worldwide. In the coming months he will be directing his sophomore feature film, ‘Latchkey Kids’, which will star Idina Menzel, Elsie Fisher, Alan Kim, and Jae Suh Park.
